The First Steps to a Sound Replacement

The first project that I am tackling is a sound replacement project. Using a 2 minute clip from Carrie (1974), I will be aiming to replace all the audio from the a segment of the iconic 'prom scene'.

Whilst we are still working out the preproduction details, we were given a sort of 'intro class' into all the things that a sound replacement may include. Using a studio equiped with a C24 Mixing Console and a Foley room, myself and the rest of the students were given a clip from Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) and asked to replicate the sound as best we could with the equipment in the Foley room. This task was very fun to carry out, and it was very interesting. I was blown away by how much work goes into audio post-production, all the different elements - Foley, music, automated dialog replacement (ADR), body hit noises... even though the clip we were given was only about 5 minutes long, it took about 6 hours for us to complete the video... and it was still no match against the original! It definitely gave me a taste of what will be needed for this project.
